Students taking courses through Washington State University Distance Degree Programs can receive support through the following online services.

square bullet     E-TUTORING

DDP is partnering with The Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium to provide unlimited FREE online tutoring assistance to students through eTutoring (eTutoring.org). All DDP students will have access to eTutoring's free online professional tutoring services in the following areas:
    • Accounting
    • Biology
    • Math
    • Spanish
    • Statistics
    • Writing
eTutoring provides support through the following options:
    • eWriting Lab allows you to submit a draft of your paper to a tutor, ask for specific feedback, and receive your work back with a tutor's response within 24–48 hours (see also Online Writing Lab below).
    • Live Tutoring via eChat allows you to meet with a tutor in one-on-one tutoring sessions via a fully interactive, virtual online environment.
    • eQuestions allows you to leave a specific question for an eTutor, who will respond within 48 hours (but usually sooner).
    • Resources provides tips, techniques and supplemental information to help improve your writing skills.
The service is easy to use and all you need is an Internet connection. For more information on how to take advantage of this free service, see Using eTutoring.

square bullet     ONLINE WRITING LAB

Students enrolled in courses through DDP can submit written work for review, such as papers or essays, to eTutoring's eWriting Lab. eWriting tutors review composition (the focus of a piece, the supporting details provided, and the organization of those details) and may note patterns of errors, but they do not correct or proofread students' work.

WSU's Online Writing Lab (OWL) encourages students to access eTutoring's eWriting Lab, however, students who currently are using the WSU OWL can still access the OWL site (OWL).

square bullet     SMARTHINKING

Distance Degree Programs continues to partner with SMARTHINKING through June 2007 to provide access to qualified online tutoring in the following areas:
    • Accounting
    • Chemistry
    • Math
    • Micro and Macroeconomics
    • Spanish
    • Statistics
    • Writing
Through June 2007, unlimited FREE access is extended to DDP students until DDP reaches the contract limit. (NOTE: When the WSU contract limit is reached, FREE service will no longer be available to DDP students, but they can choose to contract directly with SMARTHINKING to pay for additional tutoring services and will be charged only if they do contract for additional services.) The service is easy to use and all you need is an Internet connection. For more information on how to take advantage of this free service, see Online Academic Support: Getting Started (Word document; PDF file).
